Celebrate World Environment Day with Mr Central Heating

This year’s World Environment Day summit will be held in Sweden on the 5th of June. This is one of the most widely recognized global platforms for environmental issues around the world. It was created 49 years ago by the UN as a way of highlighting the issues the environment is facing through pollution and global warming. This year the campaign slogan of the host country is ‘Only One Earth’. The over-arching message is one of ‘Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature’.  

Earth is in Code RED. Urgent action is needed to reduce the damage being done. The goal of the World Environment Day is to highlight environmental issues that are affecting our planet. Some of these issues include marine pollution, food waste, greenhouse gas emissions and sustainability of our resources such as the focus on reducing single use plastic. Highlighting these issues to the masses should inspire action. When it comes to tackling issues relating to the environment, the good news is that a lot can be done to help combat the issues. Often simple lifestyle changes can make a difference. Reducing single use plastic and helping biodiversity with projects that focus on tree planting and ecosystem restoration are a good place to start too. The goal here is help tackle climate change and to clean-up the environment.  

Our Sustainability Pledge

Here at Mr Central Heating, we take our industries impact on the environment seriously. Sustainability and the reduction of harmful CO2 is a very important issue to us at Mr Central Heating. We’re committed to exploring a range of initiatives to help our business and our customers. We want to make it easier for you to make responsible choices in your business and at home. You can read more about what we are doing here. Our goal is to reduce your carbon footprint, support the circular economy and help make your business more sustainable. Below are just a few ways we're doing our bit to help save planet earth.    

Boiler Box

The Boiler Box was our first sustainable focused initiative. We're please to say it has been highly successful. It was created to help our customers contribute to a more sustainable business, in a way that was convenient for them. It is a simple way of recycling old boilers and disposing of them efficiently. By bringing us your end-of-life boiler in a Boiler Box, you can guarantee that the boiler will go through a responsible recycling process. It will not end up in landfill or be adding to national waste crime. Correctly recycling a boiler through our Boiler Box scheme will ensure that as much material as possible will be recycled. This will help us, and our customers reduce our impact on the environment. It also helps towards the UK’s target of Net Zero by 2050. The collapsible box can be reused and is very easy to store, especially in work vans etc. Encouraging people to upgrade their old and inefficient boiler is also a great way to contribute to reducing carbon emissions to help beat air pollution.    

Pump Dump

We’re working alongside Grundfos for our next sustainability initiative, Pump Dump. This allows you to bring us your old pumps to be recycled. Drop them in to any one of our stores, and we will send them back to the manufacturer to be recycled. Grundfos (the leading pump manufacturer in the UK) set up the Grundfos Take Back Scheme. Using the idea of circular economy, they reuse the materials in new pump production. This is not just applicable for Grundfos pumps, we will happily accept any manufacturers pumps. You can rest assured that parts will never be resold for spares.

Packaging Take Back Scheme

Our most recent initiative is the Packaging Take Back Scheme. You can bring in any packaging from a boiler, cylinder, radiator etc. into one of our stores across the country. We will happily take it off you, ready to be recycled responsibly. We accept cardboard, shrink wrap, polystyrene, or other plastics. Then, we will ensure that it is disposed of and recycled responsibly, avoiding landfill. If you receive multiple deliveries from us, we can also remove the packaging from the previous delivery when we bring the new one. This will be free of charge.
