Earth Day 2022 - Sustainabilty at home and business
Today is Earth Day 2022, so we’re showing our support at Mr Central Heating. Earth Day is an annual event on 22nd April to encourage environmental protection. We’re aware that our industry is a huge contributor to environmental issues including carbon emissions, climate change and excess waste. At Mr Central Heating, we’re doing what we can as a business to contribute achieving Net Zero by 2055. We are also helping to raise to an awareness of the impacts of climate change and to make it easier for our customers to get involved and do their bit. From planting trees to combat deforestation to investing in renewable energy, there are a range of things both businesses and the consumers can do to avert a climate crisis. The goal of the Earth Day 2022 celebrations is to remind us that we should invest in our planet for the future and to provide us with a toolkit of incentives that can help reverse global warming. Here at Mr Central Heating, we have been working hard behind the scenes to come up with new ideas to help us as a company and our customers do our bit to be more environmentally friendly. Here are some of the things we have been working on so far:
Packaging Take Back Scheme
This is an easy way to get rid of old packaging fuss free. You can bring in any packaging from a boiler, cylinder etc. into one of our stores across the country and we’ll happily take it off you ready to be recycled. It can be cardboard, shrink wrap, polystyrene or other plastics and will be responsibly disposed of and recycled, avoiding landfill. It’s a hassle-free solution to free up space in your van with a simple drop off and can help reduce your carbon footprint in one step. If you’re not available to come into store but receive deliveries from us, we can also remove the packaging from the previous delivery when we bring the new one free of charge. This can be particularly helpful to homeowners who are updating their central heating. Just pop in store with your packaging and we can recycle it for you.
Pump Dump
Bring in your old pumps to one of our stores and we will send them back to the manufacturer to be reverse engineered. For this, we are working in partnership with the Grundfos Take Back Scheme. They collect the pumps from us and reuse the materials in new pump production. Grundfos is the leading pump manufacturer in the UK. It has innovative ways to support the circular economy. However, we will accept any pump from any manufacturer. The parts will also never be resold for spares, this is a purely recycle scheme looking to ease extra waste and help with reducing carbon across the board. 
Boiler Box
The first and one of our best initiatives that we’ve introduced so far, is the BoilerBox. This was created in an attempt to help our customers reach a more sustainable mindset through some positive climate actions. It is essentially a simple way of recycling old boilers and disposing of them efficiently. By bringing us your end-of-life boiler in a Boiler Box, you are guaranteed that the boiler will be correctly recycled. It will not end up in landfill or be adding to waste crime. Correctly recycling a boiler through our BoilerBox scheme will ensure that as much material as possible will be recycled. This will help us and our customers reduce our impact on the environment. It also helps towards the target of Net Zero 2050. The collapsible box can be reused and is very easy to store.
