Whatever your knowledge start point, we at Mr Central Heating believe in educating our customers, helping you to fully understand the what’s, why’s and how’s.

What are press fittings?

Press fittings are a type of plumbing fitting that uses a hydraulic press to create a tight seal between the fitting and the pipe. This type of fitting is becoming increasingly popular in the plumbing industry due to its ease of installation and its ability to create a leak-free joint.

They're typically made from copper, stainless steel, or plastic and available in a variety of shapes and sizes to accommodate a wide range of applications. The material you choose will depend on the application and the environment in which the fitting will be used.

For example, copper press fittings are often used for water lines because they are corrosion resistant. Stainless steel press fittings are often used for gas lines because they are strong and durable. Plastic press fittings are often used for drain lines because they are lightweight and easy to install.

Here are some of the most common types of press fittings:

  • Couplings: used to connect two pieces of pipe together.

  • Elbows: used to change the direction of a pipe run.

  • Tees: used to create a branch in a pipe run.

  • Reducers: used to reduce the size of a pipe.

  • Stops: used to close off a pipe.

What are the benefits of using press fittings?

When choosing press fittings, it is important to select the right size and type of fitting for the application. You should also make sure that the fittings are compatible with the type of pipe you are using.

Press fittings offer a range of advantages over traditional threaded fittings:

  • Ease of installation: Press fittings are much easier to install than threaded fittings. There is no need to solder or thread the pipe, which can save time and money.

  • Leak-free joints: Press fittings create a leak-free joint that is more reliable than a threaded joint. This is because the metal is crimped around the pipe, which creates a tight seal.

  • Durability: Press fittings are more durable than threaded fittings and they can generally withstand more wear and tear.

If you are looking for a reliable and easy-to-install plumbing fitting, then press fittings are a great option.
